Un mangle rojo
Photographic essay for UN MANGLE ROJO, contemporary dance play by Carolina Pepper.
Inspired by the richness of the eternal mangrove that nourishes the coastal shape of Guayaquil city, and motivated by the observation of human activities intervening in the flora and fauna of large cities, Carolina Pepper integrates the call of Nature in her catalog with the contemporary dance play Un Mangle Rojo, of her own creation, and performed on stage with Jenny Carvajal.
This photo essay was made during the rehearsals of the play, days before its premiere, in Yelena Marich's Danza Escena theater, in midtown Guayaquil, with camera by Mauro Rojas. The play is to be released tomorrow, commemorating the International Dance Day.
UN MANGLE ROJO is releasing in an event created for commemorating the International Dance Day
The spirit of this play is strongly manifested through the origin statement by Carolina Pepper:
"Where our city is located, embraced by the river and the estuary, everything around was mangrove. Guayaquil is a sweet and salty city, of warmth and humidity.
Using the language of contemporary dance, we consider the coexistence of the city with the mangrove, its heritage in our lives, and the movement around the shapes of these so-called “twisted trees”, as well as crabs, birds, the mollusks...
From this forest that is receding, today we can affirm that the city that was a mangrove forest is the city that devoured the mangrove forest!"
Carolina Pepper and Jenny Carvajal manage to create a unique interpretative chemistry in this play
Carolina Pepper prepares a tour for Un Mangle Rojo, to take it to various performing arts spaces and art meetings in Guayaquil during this year, also attending several invitations for a series of presentations in various cities and festivals throughout the Ecuadorian territory.
