Photo-essay production for 'LI', contemporary dance play performed by Jenny Carvajal and directed by Omar Aguirre.


Omar Aguirre, a renowned performer from Guayaquil, is the creator of LI, a contemporary-dance play performed by Jenny Carvajal.

Mauro Rojas, Founder and CEO of Eonminu®, carried out a photo session of the rehearsal sessions in open natural spaces in Guayaquil, as an experimental process before its author defines its final aesthetics.

Although the spirit embodied in these photographs is far from the aesthetics of the final product, the essence of these images motivated the author of the work to direct the conceptualization of the character, giving its performer the opportunity to explore the symbolic language of movement while freely improvising with nature.

Jenny Carvajal masterfully addressed her skill in improvising with the mangrove, turning it into a stage and home thanks to the spirit with which she handled this experimental act.

The fact of taking advantage of large mangrove trunks generates a sacred space that interacts as a stage, unfolding as a scene-character, facilitating the construction of an alternate language with improvisation.

These images are part of the Performing Arts Record developed in Eonminu® to build a reference on the history of independent performing arts production in Ecuador.

Although this session provides ecological clues for its aesthetic construction, the result rather took this inspiration as a spiritual essence for the construction of the character, giving a twist to the aesthetics through chroreography, costumes and props; this will be quite evident in its premiere at the theater of the Casa de la Cultura Núcleo del Guayas.
